Sound [Pronunciation]







These phonemes are part of the phonemic chart that is used to describe the sounds of many languages. They have been established by the International Phonemic Association [IPA]. For more information about the correct pronunciation, listen to the English programmes on the radio or watch videos on YouTube.

BrE stands for British English, whereas NAmE stands for North American English.
All pronunciations use the IPA. Many phonetic symbols, e.g. /p/, /s/, /k/ sound exactly like the most common pronunciation of the letter they look like. When more than one pronunciation is shown, the more common one is first, but both are often used.
